Program objectivesThis program helps highly skilled foreign talent in STEM fields such as IT, AI, and semiconductors who are based outside Japan learn about career opportunities at Japanese and Japan-affiliated companies and gain hands-on work experience.
Eligible applicantsEligible applicants are students or recent graduates (within three years of graduation) in STEM fields, including IT, AI, and semiconductors, from Global South countries such as those in Asia (including India and ASEAN countries), Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe.
Note: Applicants must hold the nationality of a country listed on the OECD DAC List (excluding People's Republic of China) and reside outside Japan.
Internship periodDepending on company openings, between September 2026 and February 12, 2027.

Internship application requirementsApplicants must:
・ Be nationals of a country listed on the OECD DAC List (excluding People's Republic of China) and reside outside Japan.
・ Be students expected to graduate from a university (bachelor’s, master’s, or higher) or have graduated within the last three years at the time of application.
・ Have proficiency in English.
・ Be aligned with the objectives of the program, actively participate in the internship, and be willing to pursue employment at a Japanese company.
・ Be able to fully commit to the internship and participate in all scheduled activities in accordance with the approved activity plan.
・ Meet any additional requirements set by the host company.
Host organization location(s)Japanese companies headquartered in Japan, or Japan‑affiliated companies located in the intern’s country.
Number of positions available1 to 5 interns per company.
Main support provided to internsGeneral: Pre‑internship guidance and support for matching with host companies, and other assistance to implement the internship.
For in‑person internships:
Living allowance: 2,000 JPY per day during the stay (not a salary/remuneration).
Coverage of round‑trip airfare and accommodation costs during the stay.
Arrangement/support for internship insurance, overseas travel insurance, Wi‑Fi/internet access, visa acquisition support, and a 24/7 telephone hotline.
Internship application periodRolling applications; all course deadlines are by the end of November.
Coding tests are planned to be held five times between July and November.
How to apply (Internship)1. Click the “Apply for Internship” button to access the matching platform Talendy and register an account by following the guidance.
2. On Talendy, those who select IT or AI field will need to take register relevant coding test, and for other fields you will need to register your skills, and complete the test or skill registration within the specified period.
3. Job openings will be disclosed to applicants who have taken the test or registered their skills; apply to the positions that match your skills.
4. Companies will conduct their selection process and interviews; a match is established upon mutual agreement.
5. Prepare an Internship Activity Plan; the Program Secretariat will support certain travel arrangements and costs for travel to Japan.
6. After completing the internship, submit your activity report and supporting documents for subsidy reimbursement; expenses will then be settled.
Main responsibilities of internsInterns are expected to:
・ Be aware that this program is funded by the Government of Japan.
・ Understand that the program provides work experience and does not guarantee employment.
・ Develop an internship plan with their host company supervisor, including roles and objectives.
・ Participate in orientation sessions and required training.
・ Maintain proactive communication with the Program Secretariat and host company, including reporting and consulting as needed, and follow proper health and safety practices.
・ Submit all required documents and reports before, during, and after the internship.
・ Actively support promotional activities after the internship, including participating in interviews and responding to surveys.
Other notes and important information1. Submitting an application does not guarantee placement with a host company.
2. Inquiries regarding selection results or the reasons for acceptance or rejection will not be answered.
3. Even after a placement is confirmed, the internship may be canceled due to circumstances beyond control, such as visa issues or natural disasters.
4. Once an internship placement is mutually agreed upon, cancellations by either the company or the intern are not permitted.
5. After the internship begins, temporary return to the home country or interruption of the internship for reasons attributable to the company or the intern is not allowed. In such cases, future applications will not be accepted.
6. As this is a publicly funded program, outcomes of the internship may be published on websites or in other media.
